I rode by there yesterday and it looks real close to be done. Of course, knowing the city, it will probably sit there locked up for two months after construction is complete, before it's officially opened.

One of our neighbors kids goes to the 12 Bridges Middle School. Word on campus is that the park will open in the next week or so.

I have 'heard' that the park will not be open until 30 days after the company completes its work.

Park construction practice typically requires that the new sod and other plant material undergo a “plant establishment period” of anywhere between 30, 60, or as long as 90 days before the park is opened to the “wear and tear” of public foot-traffic.
There can also be deficient construction items that are in need of repair prior to the park’s opening. These items, such as cracked sidewalks, playground equipment repair, or irrigation system repairs, are sometimes not readily apparent to those residents walking or driving past the park.
I suggest calling the City’s Department of Public Works (645-8576) to find out when the park is anticipated to be open to the public.

I just tried calling the public works and no one there knew anything. The lady took my name and number and said that she was not sure who would know but she would have someone get back to me..I am sure I will not get a call back anytime soon, but as soon as I hear I will post it here.

I've been waiting 6 months for someone from the city to get back to me regarding the entrance to twelve bridges via whitney ranch. Hopefully you'll hear something sooner as I'm still waiting.

krishaight,
Are you speaking about the incomplete road (E Lincoln Pkwy)? If so, is there plans for a center divider? Any other info you may have?

yes that is the area I'm talking about. Where E.Lincoln meets up with Wildcat. I have no information as TB says it's a city thing and the city has never responded to any of my inquiries. If anyone else know's anything please let us know.
Thanks!

It is so nice to drive by the school and see kids in the park, people on the softball fields and more people using the track. It was worth the wait!!!!

I agree. My kids love the play area. I like that they have two different structures. One that is the perfect size for my two year old to play on while my older girls play with their friends on the big one. Can't wait to watch the kids play softball there next week. We can walk to their games!

jkldawno - was the dog on a leash or was it off-leash? If it was off-leash, then REGARDLESS OF THE BREED OR SIZE OF THE DOG, I agree that it should not be there. However, if it was on a leash and under the control of its owner, then what's the big deal?!
RizzFam, I'm sure G and F would LOVE a day at the park!!!!! :-) Meow!

well in the post you made it seem that you had an issue as well. the size of the dog does not make the dog. I had a rott/shep mix and I had a baby, my dog let her do anything to her, she was the best dog, she died of cancer. there are some mean small dogs and some mean big dogs. obviously the dog was nice, if it was a golden retriever or a shih-tzu, you probably would not have posted anything. cats are welcome at the park too, on-leash!!

At another park we go to in Lincoln (cant remember the name) there is a sign that specifically states that dogs cannot be within "x" amount of feet of the play areas...leashed or unleashed. Perhaps the sign has not been posted yet.
I have two dogs. I NEVER take them to the park where children are. Not all kids like dogs, others have allergy issues. My kids are very dog-loving, however, some kids and adults are afraid of even the friendliest of dogs. A park with a play structure is meant for children, not dogs and ALL children should be able to play there safely and without fear.
If the woman brought her dog into the play area (leashed or unleashed) then she was in the wrong. But, if she kept the dog outside the perimeter (I think it is 100 feet but dont quote me) and the dog was leashed, then she was following the rules.

I don't think the issue was that the dog was big or little, on or off leash, but that the dog was a pit bull. I would not want my children or my dog around a pit bull at all. I would have left the park also.

now I agree that if the dog and the lady were wondering around the playground equipment it might be an issue, but if she is where she can be and the kids are coming up to her and the dog, then there should be no issue, whatever breed of dog. when I was a kid a cat jumped on my face and cused me to have stitches on my face, so pit bulls are not the only animal that can present a danger.

As a parent, I would simply ask this (regardless of a sign):
the park is there obviously there for the children to enjoy the play structure. If you happen to bring your dog or macaaw or cat or lizard or giant sloth and it is making other kids nervous, the kindly remove said animal. Please keep in mind that others are not going to have the same level of comfort around your pet as you do - especially if you have had pets all of your life and they have not.
Example: we had taken our daughter to the park on wildcat (rocklin) across from the fire station (has softball fields, soccer fields, and play structure). We were there as well as one other couple and their two kids. It was peaceful, the three kids were playing well toghether for having never met, we carried on a nice conversation with the other couple and then they said "We should brings the dogs next time, this would make it all so perfect!"
I didnt say anything but kept thinking... WHY? I mean, it would be outstanding for the dogs, and maybe enhance the experience of the adults who own the dog because they want to play with their dogs, but the kids were just fine and having a great time. Why did that scenario need to change? I know my daughter would have immediately been a bit nervous with the addition of the pets whereas she was having a blast with the status quo.
For me, maybe it would have been ideal had a poker table, dealer, and a few card hacks been around... or maybe a waitress with cocktails or a giant TV playing Star Wars..but this is a playing structure meant for kids to have fun... why alter that??

Rizzfam: I see the point of view of the family that you were with at the park because being a dog(s) owner myself, I consider them part of the family. In fact, they're just like my kids. Thus, naturally I would want them to enjoy themselves at the playground/park too.
However, I would never take them off their leash, that's for sure.

I agree that being a playground for kids, leave the dogs at home. I have a dog and always have, however our dog is small and no matter how friendly a big dog is, it makes our children nervous. I love big dogs, my children don't. Take the dogs to a dog park, that's what they're for. Would you let your children run loose and play there? Leave the playgrounds for children, the dog parks for dogs. The playground should be a safe and comfortable environment for all children.

I dont disagree with you, but my point was, why change an already good situation?? This is part of the problem these days is that everyone has to change things to suit them. Considering ALL were having a good time, why feel the need to change that? As I mentioned, there are other things that perhaps I thought would make the experience more ideal, but at least I had the presence of mind to recognize that for all involved, this situation was just fine. I liken it to someone sitting next to you enjoying a serene environment, a sunset perhaps on a nice day and all of sudden just firing up a big fat cigar, puffing away with the smoke blowing into your face and saying "Now, isnt this better?" Honestly, no. Maybe had I not been there, sure to that person puffing a big fatty on a gorgeous day is akin to heaven, but when you consider that there is more than just YOU - the appeal is not universal. Leave well enough alone is what I prefer.

I have known submissive docile pit bulls and vicious chihuahuas. It's not the dog that is the problem it is the owner. There are no bad dogs, only bad owners!
It sounds by your discription that this was a good dog AND a good owner. The dog was on a leash and by your post, totally in control by the owner! What is wrong with that? My dogs are a part of my family. I take them out with me when I can. Always on a leash, and I always pick up after them.
Children should learn respect for animals. If a dog is kept on a leash by the owners side, they will not bother the kids.

For me, it is not whether the dog is a good dog or vicious dog. Not whether it's on a leash or not. I understand people love their pets and want to take them along to the park if they are taking their children to play. BUT what about when the dog relieves itself? I was at this park the other day. And there were a couple of dogs there. I noticed one lady took her dog off a distance and it took care of business. But the other lady let her big black dog urinate maybe 15-20 feet from me in the grass. It did this a few times while she sat there. This was at the edge of the grass near the play structure. This is not acceptable to me. And it should not be acceptable to anyone. Had I not seen this happen and arrived half an hour later, I could have very well picked that spot of grass to sit on. And who wants to do that?

I absolutely without a doubt happen to be a TOTAL DOG LOVER! Would have 20 if we had the room, but I think we have lost sight of the subject here. The playground is for "CHILDREN". They built it as a place where children can play, have fun and can feel they are in a safe environment. I personally know the meaning of "bad owners not bad breeds". We have a Rott who plays with all the kids in the neighborhood (they actually ask if he can come out and play). BUT, I would never take him to a park that is meant for kids. "WHAT IF" -a child has been bit before and has a fear of dogs? a child is highly allergic to dogs and/or cats? Should one of "What If" children have to leave a "childrens Playground" because someone shows up with their dog/cat? NO!!!! I happened to be at the playground the day the dog and owner were there. The only "attitude" was from the owner of the dog when the Police showed up to talk to her. By the way, she didn't leave even after the cop asked her. I'd hauled her butt off!

Mrs T. You are way off. I happened to be at the park that morning and the lady with the dog was there to meet me so our kids could play together. I did not know that she would bring her dog or I would have told her to leave it at home as she has never brought it to the park before. The dog is full Pit,but she is also the sweetest dog ever! She has been brought up with small child and loves them and is very gentle with them.. The lady that came and then left because of the dog was very rude and instead of asking my friend to please put the dog in the car, which she would have done, she yelled at her about having it there to begin with. Now my friend did get nasty with the lady because the lady did not stop harping on her about it being a pit. Meanwhile there were about 4 or 5 kids around the dog, including my 2 year old and 12 year old. She did go and call the police and when the police officer came he asked if the dog had been off the leash since that is what the person said who called,oh and that person did not leave their name,we told him that it has been on the leash the whole time. That officer never asked my friend to take her dog and leave, what WAS SAID was that she was leaving soon anyway to pick her 5 year old up from school. He was fine with that and left....Not at anytime did he ask her or us to leave. Now Mrs T. If you are the lady who was upset I am sorry sometimes my friend does not show the best judgment. There was only 4 other moms there and 2 of them were with us so by proccess of elimation you must be the woman. That is the whole story, from beginnig to end,so if you were told another story it was not correct.

WOW- this negativity makes me embarrassed to live in Twelve Bridges. Doesn't anyone count their blessings anymore? There is a lot of whining/rudeness on this site, over really insignificant issues. Maybe some of you need to go back and read All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten by Robert Fulghum. It's a great book!
